Biography - Justin M. Smit

Justin M. Smit obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree in Law
Enforcement Administration from
Western Illinois University
in 1994. Mr. Smit graduated from John
Marshall Law School and was admitted to the Illinois State Bar in
1998.
Upon being admitted to the Illinois Bar in 1998 and through 2000, Mr.
Smit worked as an associate attorney with the firm of Lake, Toback &
Yavitz in Chicago, Illinois. While at Lake, Toback & Yavitz, Mr. Smit
concentrated his area of practice to family law and divorce litigation
in complex financial and custody cases.
In December of 2000, Mr. Smit joined the Law Offices of William J.
Stogsdill, Jr., P.C. Mr. Smit continues to concentrate his areas
of practice to family law and divorce litigation, including paternity
and post-decree modification litigation. Mr. Smit is a member in
good standing of the Illinois State Bar Association and
DuPage County
Bar Association and the family law sections of each.
Since joining the Law Offices of William J. Stogsdill, Jr., P.C., Mr.
Smit has tried multiple cases as principal counsel of record during both
the contested motion and trial stages of the case. His experience
includes simple divorce matters to more complex cases involving the
classification and distribution of property, the calculation of income
for purposes of support, business valuations and the amount, duration
and reviewability of maintenance.
